Mission Statement      

The UMF Office of Public Relations is designed to serve as the public voice of the college, communicating with external media resources to illustrate, support and highlight UMF’s core identity as Maine’s Public Liberal Arts College.

We serve the college by working with the local and national media to develop stories that focus on the successes of UMF’s students, faculty and staff.   We attempt to coordinate and direct media coverage in ways that are most beneficial to UMF and the general public’s image of the college, its practices and people.

A Collaborative Effort

As a small office with limited time and staff, we must be selective with and prioritize the releases that are distributed to the media. However, we encourage you to contact us with your news and ideas, and welcome the opportunity to explore their potential.

We need your help in developing stories that might be of interest for the local and national media, particularly stories that involve interdisciplinary cooperation, faculty and student collaboration, new ways of imagining/invigorating the arts and sciences, etc.  These stories work to enlighten the general reader about the important work we are doing in the Liberal Arts and reinforce UMF’s identity as a student-centered public university with a focus that is unique to the UM system.
